Ganapati Bappa Morya during a Pandemic
Hey there,
Everyone's been grappling with their own issues in
their lives during this pandemic. I know, I know it seems like it's
never going to end. It just keeps getting worse and there's nothing that
we can do to stop it.
But festivals always bring people
together. Whether it's a person's intense faith or just their love for
the food items made during the festivals. They always bring people joy,
cheer and happiness. For a certain amount of time, we forget about
everything else. At least I certainly do.
Ganesh Chaturthi was just a few days back and it genuinely took my mind off of so many worries I had.
The
days leading up to then were gloomy for me and my mind was spiraling.
Ganesh Chaturthi has always been one of the festivals that we at home
love celebrating.
The buzz of waking up early to go buy our
Ganesha idol and all the fruits and sweets that Ganesha loves oh so much. And
let's not forget the sweets we make at home. My mother always makes
kozhukatai's ( modhaks ) and laddu's every year but she used to do it
alone. I meanwhile used to be the Ganesha of the house and eat them.
This year though, I helped make them. I helped do the pooja.
The famous Ulsoor lake visit. That was the highlight
of every Ganesh Chaturthi.
This year was different, we stayed
home, bought minimum sweets and fruits, my mother made two little
Ganeshas at home, one from clay and one from turmeric. We didn't go out
for the Ulsoor lake immersion.
But even though it was different,
it brought joy like always. It was a break that I really needed to get
out of my everyday rut. It's been a few days since and I've been more
productive and clear headed.
I'm clearly looking forward to the coming festivals and celebrations because in the end, the coming together of a community, of family always brings joy.
